🚨 SCAM WARNING: FAKE TENDER EMAIL (REF NO. DCS-17285)

⚠️ This message is part of a widespread tender scam impersonating the Department of Correctional Services (DCS). Even though it appears to come from a legitimate @dcs.gov.za email address (e.g., Thulani.Mpila@dcs.gov.za), the email is spoofed and should not be trusted.

🚩 Why This Is a Scam

Red FlagDescription
Urgent RFQ for paper shredders (JMG77)Unsolicited and designed to rush your response.
You’re told you can “outsource the item”This is the scam’s core trick — they want you to buy from their fake supplier.
Elaborate request for standard documentsMeant to add legitimacy but unnecessary for an unsolicited RFQ.
Fake contact info (Elvis.Mahlangu@dcs.gov.za)The person and phone numbers are not listed on official DCS channels.
No listing on the National Treasury eTender PortalAll official tenders are published there.
Unusual number of units (25 paper shredders)Large, specific orders are used to inflate the scam amount.

💡 How the Scam Works

  1. They pretend to be DCS officials, sending an RFQ with an urgent deadline.

  2. You’re encouraged to source the item from a “recommended” supplier (their scam partner).

  3. You pay that supplier — but the goods never arrive.

  4. The real DCS knows nothing about it. You lose your money.

What You Should Do

  • Do not reply to the email.

  • Do not send quotations or any company documentation.

  • Do not pay any supplier connected to this request.

  • Report it immediately to the relevant authorities.
