⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Fake RFQ from “Sibongile Mlangeni” – Department of Employment and Labour

Have you received an email from sibongile.mlangeni@supplychainslabour.online inviting you to submit a quotation for a tender on behalf of the Department of Employment and Labour?

👉 Do NOT respond — this is a fraudulent tender scam.

🚩 Why This Is a Scam

RED FLAGEXPLANATION
Fake Domain: @supplychainslabour.onlineNot an official .gov.za address. The Department of Labour uses labour.gov.za or labour.gov.za.tld for official correspondence.
No Tender Listed on eTenders PortalLegitimate South African government tenders are only posted on https://www.etenders.gov.za
Urgent Language & Unverified RequestThe message urges pricing submissions in 3 days and says it’s “automated,” to discourage verification.
Generic Contact InfoThe contact details are made to look official but are copied from public records to trick businesses.

📧 Email Sample Text

“Tender submissions are invited from registered & eligible contractors/firms… currently looking for companies that can assist with pricing…”

“NB: This is an automated email; it may reach you when it is passed office hours due to our system delay.”

These are common phrases used in scam emails that mimic real RFQs to pressure businesses into fast responses.

🧠 How the Scam Usually Plays Out

  1. You receive the RFQ via email.

  2. You reply with your quotation.

  3. The scammer directs you to a “preferred supplier” for goods.

  4. The supplier issues an invoice for upfront payment.

  5. Once paid, the “supplier” disappears — leaving you at a financial loss.

✅ How to Stay Safe

DO NOT:

  • Open any attachments or links.

  • Share your company documents or quote.

  • Send payment or place an order via third-party suppliers.

DO:

  • Verify tenders directly at https://www.etenders.gov.za

  • Report the scam to:

    • 📧 fraud@labour.gov.za

    • 📧 cybersecurity@csirt.gov.za

    • 📧 fraud@treasury.gov.za

  • Mark the email as phishing/spam in your inbox.

🛡️ Protect Your Business

Scammers frequently use official-looking language, real building addresses (like Laboria House), and similar email domains to fool suppliers into acting quickly. Stay vigilant and verify every tender request through proper government portals.
